Gifts That Give Part One

For the past few years I’ve been bringing you gifts that do more than please their recipient, they give back in some way. They might be made of recycled, renewable or re-purposed material, crafted or made in the USA, a portion of the proceeds donated to charity, a fair trade product or do double duty in some other way.

This week we’ll focus on gifts that generate jobs here in the good ole U-S of A.

Craft Beer Home Brew kit from Red Envelope

The only thing better than kicking back with a cold one is kicking back with one made with your own two hands. Featuring pub-worthy craft brew, this home brewing kit puts premium beer in your fridge and a refreshing brew in your glass for results that are truly toast-worthy. Brews one gallon in just 21 days. Made in USA.

Hickory Farms is not only a US based company they have a couple of fantastic ways they give back.

When you buy the Summer Sausage & Cheese Gift Box (or 3 other gift sets) Hickory Farms will donate a 10oz Summer Sausage to Operation Gratitude which sends care packages to deployed U.S. Service Members, their children left behind and to Wounded Warriors, Veterans and First Responders. Hickory Farms also ships free to APO/FPO military addresses.

Purchase the Party Planner Gift Box and Hickory Farms will donate $5 to the No Kid Hungry campaign which feeds children in need right here in the US. You can also add your own donation to No Kid Hungry through your Hickory Farms order.

Working Man’s Hygeine Kit from Uncommon Goods

This all-natural set was created by a mechanic who let his dirty, damaged paws drive his inspiration to design products for dudes. The manly salves, scrubs and balms included are specially made to meet the needs of the working man. From soothing sore feet, to healing cracked lips and knuckles, to buffing the dickens out of dry skin, this kit goes beyond simple cleansers to get the job done. Handmade in the USA.

Civil War Wool Blanket from Flying Cloud Gift Shoppe and Tree Farm

History buffs will truly enjoy these replicated Civil War blankets from the 1860′s. They’re known for their simple design and durability. 100% Wool and Made in the USA.

About Beth

Beth Yarnall writes romantic suspense, mysteries and the occasional hilarious blog post. A storyteller since her playground days, Beth remembers her friends asking her to make up stories of how the person 'died' in the slumber party game Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, so it's little wonder she prefers writing stories in which people meet unfortunate ends. In middle school she discovered romance novels, which inspired her to write a spoof of soap operas for the school's newspaper. She hasn't stopped writing since. For a number of years, Beth made her living as a hairstylist and makeup artist and co-owned a salon with her very best friend. Somehow hairstylists and salons always seem to find their way into her stories. Beth lives deep in the heart of 'The O.C.' California with her husband, two sons, and their dog where she is hard at work on her next novel. For more about Beth and her novels please visit her website www.bethyarnall.com
